Payday loans fuel Cash America gains

(Star-Telegram) - Revenue growth for payday loans, including those extended over the Internet, helped Fort Worth-based Cash America International rack up a 19 percent increase in net income for the second quarter.


"All aspects of our business experienced increases in revenue, led by our expanded balances of cash-advance loans, which posted the largest portion of the year-over-year gains in revenue," President Dan Feehan said.


But he stressed that Cash America's pawnshop loans and merchandise sales represented about two-thirds of revenue. Pawn revenue was up 18 percent, he said. More...

Cash Advance Store Robbery Suspect On The Loose

(WCPO) - Investigators said the man went in to the Cash Advance store on State Route 28 just after noon and demanded cash.


The suspect is described as:
a white man
in his 30's or 40's.
wearing a peach or orange colored shirt, ball cap, sunglasses and flip flops

Police uncover payday loan scam

The Arizona Republic - Police believe a man arrested at a Chandler payday loan store this week had developed a scheme to cash checks using fake pay stubs and accomplices posing as his employees.


Chester would recruit accomplices and have them open a checking account in their name with very little money in it. He then would send them into a payday loan store to get a cash advance using phony pay stubs he supplied that made the person appear employed. The accomplice would write a check on the account, get a $400 advance then split the money with Chester. More...
